Microsoft has released its preview for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7. The full blog post can be found here.
This blog post has a great video with a significant benchmark test versus Google Chrome and it clearly smokes Google Chrome on that test. The video explains that Internet Explorer can now harness a computers GPU to perform graphics rendering for web applications. Check the video out for yourself!
I was sold on his blog and video so I have downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 11 (it will require a reboot). From a quick face value it seems that the GUI is identical to IE10. My Bing Bar complains that it is incompatible with IE11. Although keeping it running doesn’t appear to cause any problems.
Over the next few days I will be benchmarking a couple of web games I play (no, not Farmville!) and I will let you know what sort of graphics improvements I see. Under IE10 I had a web game that definitely experienced some graphics lag. So I will see how noticeable this 30% performance improvement really is.
