On January 5th, 2014, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.x will reach the second stage of its end-of-life process. This is the official end of limited support. What this means is that there will be no further development or patches for this product. SEP 11.0.7 MP3 will be the final release update and maintenance patch for SEP 11. Technical Support, however, will continue until January 5th, 2015. Symantec is issuing letters to all customers regarding this product lifecycle.
Thankfully upgrading from SEP 11.0 to SEP 12.1 is a breeze compared to the previous major product upgrade (SAVCE 10.1). Upgrading from 11 to 12 is more like doing a release update than a major migration. Very easy and painless. So what are you waiting for? Well, there is one tiny gotcha.
SEP 12.1 does drop support for its client on Windows 2000 Pro and Windows 2000 Server. The good news, while you can’t upgrade those clients, is that SEP 12.1 is backward compatible and will manage those legacy 11.0 clients until you can get those operating systems upgraded.
Remember, after January 2015, technical support for 11 is gone as well!
