One of cool keyboard combinations in Outlook that is often overlooked is pressing CTRL + DEL on an email message. If you press CTRL + DEL on an email message it gives you the option of automatically moving any new messages that are determined to be part of the same email string or conversation to the Deleted Items folder. Kind of useful when someone sent the Keyboard Kitty viral video to everyone in the company and it generates a dozen reply-alls.

Is there a way to disable the CTRL + DEL keystroke command in Outlook? I regularly use this keystroke combo to delete an entire word (as opposed to hitting the Delete key for every letter), which is the standardized meaning of this combination of keystrokes everywhere else. Now Outlook uses it for another meaning that is not desirable if you are used to typing using standardized keystrokes. Thanks!

Was this ever answered for you? It just started for me and it is really pissing me off as messages are deleted while I am trying to correct my typing.

Any way to reverse/undo this action? I accidentally did this on my subordinate’s leave application notification email, and as a result of this I missed all subsequent annual leave application notifications?
Gareth Gudger says
Hi Danny,
You can reverse it. Check the second half of this article – https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ignore-all-email-messages-in-a-conversation-5ec0c3c2-3440-484e-9aca-0588234d44e9

Once you add a thread, to be monitored and moved does ever stop? Can the thread be removed from being moved to deleted items?
If a different email, using the same subject, comes in will it be counted as part of the thread and be moved to deleted items?
Steven Schneider says
But it seems to be sent to the delete file. Wouldn’t it be better just to be sent to junk mail thru “Block Sender”, especially if you don’t want to see it again? Then you can delete all your junk mail.
