Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.StoragePermanentException
Exception message: Could not get properties.
If your users are getting this error when they are accessing Outlook Web App (OWA) the problem may be caused by your antivirus solution.
A quick way to determine this is to modify the following registry key on the Exchange Server.
- Open Registry Editor.
- Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\MSExchangeIS - Backup the VirusScan registry key and then delete it.
- Restart the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service.
- Have your users retry their previous actions in Outlook Web App (OWA).
This should fix the issue.
I’d love to hear what you think, so please leave a comment!

thank you! we have Exchange 2010 with Symantec Mail Security for Exchange 7.5 and all OWA users were getting “this file contained a virus and was deleted” no matter what the file was. Deleting this registry key allows them to send attachments again!

Thanks Logres. Glad it fixed your problem too. Will have to make a note that is also fixes that issue as well.

I would like to say, thank you for this answer. Had issues with a customer Exchange server running Exchange 2007 and this error code and google couldn’t find the answer until a few pages in when your post appeared and this bought the Exchange server back online and with emails working.
